World Core is a two-period class taught by different pairs of English and Social Studies teachers — however, unlike World Studies, the World Core English and World Core SS classes are not in back-to-back classes taught by both teachers in one room. Instead, they’re spread out within a student’s schedule and each taught by one teacher. World Core is more similar to a traditional class at MVHS, where students work individually with selective group projects throughout the year.
Sophomore Marvin Wu took World Core instead of Studies because he personally prefers working more individually. Additionally, he believes that having the two periods spread out allows for more freedom throughout the day.
As for the content itself, Wu believes that being in Core has allowed him to have a more extensive knowledge of literature and human nature.
“I know that in World Core, the idea is to base worldwide events and literature to support this idea of human nature,” Wu said. “Knowing how it is around the world and how it's similar around the world is helping me better understand the ideas people have around the world.”
