In Weight Training, students weightlift using free weights and weight machines. According to senior Nate Reyes, Weight Training teacher Jeffrey Thomas gives students the option to work on whatever they want to or follow a workout he provides. During the first three weeks of class, Thomas demonstrates how to work out and use equipment so all students can start safely working out.
“[It’s] relaxing [and] pretty laid back,” Reyes said. “You have fun, you [get] to work out. As long as you're not just sitting there.”
Reyes enjoys following Thomas’ 30 minute bike workouts. However, he dislikes having the class on block periods, where students walk around the track for the last 30 minutes of class. While Reyes enjoys not having to spend time outside of school dedicated to the class, he dislikes not being able to use his phone while working out.
“If you want to [take] weightlifting, actually have a difference in your body, then take the class because I mean, I lost weight,” Reyes said. “There's kids in my class that are gaining muscle, so I mean, it's helpful.”
