Students in Dance 1 study jazz, ballet, modern and cultural dances in preparation for performing at two dance concerts. In addition to maintaining a written portfolio of vocabulary, self-evaluations and musical critiques, students also spend time learning meditation and yoga.
Junior Viha Srinivas loves how fun and engaging the class is with a variety of activities — they rarely practice one routine continuously.
“I took the class as a fun stress reliever from all the other academic classes I’m taking this year,” Srinivas said. “And I think it's a really fun class.”
For Srinivas, the class is isn’t too difficult nor fast-paced, as students are enabled to go at their own pace. Additionally, students aren’t spending the entirety of class time dancing, besides when preparing for performing at the Winter Showcase — for which there are no outside of school rehearsals. Due to the relaxing nature of the class, Srinivas enjoys Dance 1 despite not having as much of a dance background.
“I feel like I'm not the best dancer, and everyone in that class is really talented,” Srinivas said. “But honestly, it’s fine because at the end of the day, you are there to have fun and learn something new.”
